In 1790, John Weldon built a log cabin on the hill overlooking the spring. By 1789, John and his brother, Joseph, had obtained 765 acres in a Spanish land grant. During the next century and a half, the area continued to grow.
In the early 1980's, the town's growth began to concern the residents of Weldon Spring, who were concerned that their small, rural town would be swallowed by the big city. They banded together, and in 1984, the town of Weldon Spring was incorporated. The town was later upgraded to a Fourth Class City in the State of Missouri.
