Dardenne Prairie

Dardenne Prairie has big plans

Though small in population, Dardenne Prairie has big plans for the future, and a dedication to preserving the past. Once a farming community, Dardenne Prairie is now growing into a strong city with solid economic roots and a clear eye toward the future.

Recently, businesses have been flocking to Dardenne Prairie. JC Penney, Target and Shop ‘n’ Save now have a place in the town’s retail sector. Local commercial and office plazas have cropped up in the last few years.

The historic Immaculate Conception Church remains the heart of Dardenne Prairie, and is the focal point of a proposed downtown area. With plans for mixed housing, retail, and office space, officials plan to guide future city developments into a productive direction. An architectural firm is now in the process of helping Dardenne Prairie create a master plan. In addition, the BaratHaven plan is partnering with the Great Rivers Greenway District as part of a taxpayer funded plan to create a green, connected community. BaratHaven will focus on lifestyle amenities, with a focus on preserving the area’s natural habitat and greenspace.

Within the BaratHaven project is a new private, independent school. Barat Academy is the first Catholic high school in Missouri founded by a lay board of directors. It is neither owned nor operated by any religious order, nor the Archdiocese of St. Louis. Founded under the values of Sacred Heart education, the school has opened with a class of 150 freshmen, and will offer single gender classes on a coeducational campus.
